Should I see a Doctor, a Nurse or a Healthcare Assistant?
Please give Reception as much information as possible which will enable us to get you an appointment sooner with the most appropriate clinician. Please be assured that all staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors.

Blood Tests
A phlebotomist from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary is available to take blood samples when requested by a doctor. If you are mobile and have access to transport we would be grateful if you would attend the blood clinic at a local hospital. This will help reduce waiting times for all our patients requiring blood tests. Please request your blood card from Reception before you go, thank you.

Our Healthcare Assistant is providing some phlebotomy appointments, as requested by GPs only.

Diabetic Clinic
The Nursing Team provide this regular clinic, with involvement from the GPs to prescribe and review treatment. Diabetic foot checks are now available at the clinic.

Flu Vaccinations
A flu vaccination is recommended for patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes, residents in nursing or residential homes and all patients over 65 years. Please contact Reception in September for an appointment.

Travel Immunisations and Advice
We no longer provide a full range of holiday vaccinations. Please contact reception to complete a form at least 8 weeks in advance of your holiday/travel and the practice nurses will advise of your requirements. If any less than 8 weeks or you require vaccinations we cannot provide it may be necessary to contact a travel clinic.

Baby Clinic and Child Immunisations
The practice nurse is available by appointment for pre-school immunisations and health checks. Baby clinics are provided by the Health Visitors at various sites throughout the area.

Ante-natal Clinic
Held by the Community Midwife to provide care for pregnant mothers. Post-natal checks are by appointment with a GP.

Contraception
The clinical team have family planning qualifications and can prescribe and provide advice on a variety of contraception methods.

Smear Clinic
We provide a regular smear clinic on one afternoon per month.

Minor Surgery
Minor surgery can be performed on appropriate skin lesions. Please consult a doctor first. We run minor surgery sessions once a month.

Accidents
If you suffer an accident (possible fracture or a wound requiring stitches), please go to the Accident and Emergency department of your nearest hospital.

Non-NHS Examinations
Private medicals, for example for driving, insurance, etc, are performed by appointment outside normal surgery times. Please request an appointment and details of charges.

Sickness Certificates
If you are absent from work for up to seven days, patients must complete a self-certification form for your employer.

If you are absent from work for seven or more days, you will need an appointment with a GP who may then provide a certificate.

Other Services
The Practice team extends to provide other services, with regular clinics at the Health Centre or at other local centres:-

  • Podiatry (Chiropody)
  • Counselling and others.
  • Health Visitors provide a walk-in clinic for baby and child checks.

District Nursing Service
The District Nursing service aims to deliver the following for our patients:

  • Nursing assessment to housebound patients and those requiring care in a home setting e.g. post surgical dressings, palliative care.
  • To prevent unnecessary hospital admission and facilitate early discharge
  • To assess individuals holistically
  • To promote health independence and well being

The service includes:-

  • Palliative/ terminal care and bereavement support
  • Wound care and leg ulcer management
  • Continence assessments
  • Provision & monitoring of nursing equipment and medical devices
  • Administration of medication by injection
  • Diabetic care
  • Catheter care
  • Stoma care
  • Venepuncture
  • Flu/pneumoccoccal vaccinations
  • Ring pessarys
  • Vacuum assisted wound therapy
  • Nebulisers
