Should I see a Doctor, a Nurse or a Healthcare Assistant?

Please give Reception as much information as possible which will enable us to get you an appointment sooner with the most appropriate clinician. Please be assured that all staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors.

Healthcare Assistants

Michelle and Helen, our Healthcare assistants, perform a number of vital healthcare services at the practice which include:

  • ECGs
  • Urine Infection testing
  • Blood Pressure checks
  • Blood taking (by GP request)
  • Weight and diet advice
  • Healthy lifestyle support
  • New patient health checks
  • Health Checks for over 40s
  • Flu vaccinations
  • Ear Syringing

Practice Nurses

Our Practice Nurses, Kate and Mandy, run a wide range of the healthcare services and clinics at Dearne Valley Health Centre including:

  • Medication reviews
  • Injections
  • Ear syringing
  • Smear tests
  • Chronic disease support: e.g. asthma, coronary heart disease, etc..
  • Diabetes support
  • Contraception checks and advice

Role of Doctors

Our GPs are here to:

  • Help diagnose and treat more severe and acute problems
  • Undertake follow-ups for ongoing problems
  • Refer you to secondary care specialists if needed
